The water supply (copper pipe) to 5 St Andrews Cottages is accidentally broken so the cut end is hammered flat to seal it pending a repair. (South West Water have to be called out.) Water can be seen spraying from the loose screw joint with the high-pressure 3" diameter (approx.) cast-iron water main below. Copper pipe stopped being used for water supply purposes in about the 1950s.

On the opposite side of the trench at this point is old brickwork and pipework associated with and earlier (now disused and 'dry') water main system. The present cast-iron main (water still spraying from the leaking joint with the copper) runs across the centre of the trench.

A closer view of the disused water system. A couple of old large brass taps are visible, everything simply buried beneath the road.

The new trench has been extended further northwards and the cast-iron water main is now safely at the edge of the trench. The copper connection to 4 St Andrews Cottages has been exposed.
