The 'turning point' - in various senses. The bus turning
area in the background - could be back in action again fairly soon? - and
in the foreground, where a manhole will be built, the point where the
600ml pipe makes a right-angle turn to begin it's journey towards St
Clement's Terrace. 20/2/06 |

The main part of the manhole is constructed from
pre-formed concrete sections including steps/handholds. The shuttering
will be removed and the rough concrete around the pipe junction beneath
finished off with smooth mortar to provide an optimum water flow. The
broken small pipe just visible at the far left of the picture was a
surprise. No-one knows what it does - if anything - but it will be
repaired, just in case. 21/2/06 |

The next day is wet and cold. A second pre-formed concrete
ring is added, plus some brickwork, and finished off with the new cover,
proud of the concrete surface to allow for tarmacing. The small grey pipe
just behind the black cover is steering rain water, running down the road
into the work area, away from the new mortar work. 22/2/06 |

Another finishing touch - a roadside drain pit also gets
its new slotted cover. 22/2/06 |
