Outside 5 St Andrew's Cottages again a foul sewer pipe
crossing the trench has been replaced and a surface water drain above it
to the right awaits re-connection. Barely visible in this picture, but the
remains of the clay pipe carrying the western stream are exposed in the
right-hand side of the trench. The workman is inserting a plug in this
pipe and then knocking a hole in the pipe further back towards the digger
so that the stream can simply run from the clay pipe into the end of the
trench and away through the new 600ml twin-wall pipe beneath the concrete. 16/2/06 |

There's been a new problem along this last stretch - the
material beneath the road surface has been getting ever softer and looser,
and wanting to collapse into the trench as it is excavated, hence the need
now for steel shuttering. But practically all the length beside 5 St
Andrew's Cottages has now been filled with concrete, so the house should
be OK! 17/2/06 |

Remember the BT box on page 15 (10/2/06) that needed
re-building? Well, BT came to do the job today - using reinforced concrete
cast in situ. When that job is finished, re-opening of the bottom road may
not be too far away. 17/2/06 |

The BT box is finished and needs a few days for the
concrete to 'cure' before traffic can pass over it. 20/2/06 |
