Back towards the junction box a replacement surface water
drain has been fitted across the covered culvert, meeting the roadside
drain pit, and just beyond a new blue water supply pipe has been
installed. 27/1/06 |

General view of the part-demolished bridge, the culvert
base meeting the stream bed, the two quiet pumps now pumping the entire
stream contents past the work, and the temporary pedestrian walkway over
the stream. 27/1/06 |

The workmen came back on Saturday, built a dam of plastic
and building blocks, turned the pumps off and sent the stream back under
the remains of the bridge. The water level is about a foot above the base
of the culvert. 29/1/06 |

Possibly discernible in this picture is a grey layer
several inches thick sloping up from the bottom left of the work face
towards the top of the block wall on the right. Was this the original road
surface - before the days of tarmac - when the road just sloped down to a
ford before the bridge existed? 29/1/06 |
