And this is where it's going next - under the wall, just
to the right of Pat's garage, and on straight through the garden mainly of
No.1 St Clements Terrace to a new manhole where it will make its last
change of direction before reaching its destination where the western
stream currently dives underground. Not sure yet whether the wall is
coming down, to be re-built, or whether they can dig underneath - which is
unlikely. 1/3/06 |

Remember the hole in the dark clay, 6 feet down? Well here it is in close-up - about 2 feet across at its widest - and the two pictures below show what came out of it - a large roughly hexagonal boulder. This is another one for our local geologist. It's down in the undisturbed natural levels. Did Harberton have its own Giant's Causeway? | |
Next day, the old manhole has gone, the new one is
installed, one small pipe remains to be re-joined across the old manhole
space. See page 25 for an update. 2/3/06 |

The bottom of the new manhole in detail: towards the top
of the picture the new 600ml twin-wall from which will flow the western
stream coming down past St Clements Terrace; below the concrete to the
right at right-angles to this the new 2004 surface water drain coming down
Tristford Road. All the rough concrete will be smoothed into shape with
mortar. 2/3/06 |
