The leaky section of cast-iron water main has been
replaced with new blue plastic (as have the copper connections to both
Nos. 4 and 5 St Andrews Cottages).

At the far end of the above picture the trench has reached
the bottom end of the other flood relief scheme work carried out in 2004 which starts up outside the Parish Hall
and runs down Tristford Road. The manhole on the right
was always a temporary structure and will now be replaced by a large new
one. The small (metal) pipes visible about 2 feet down are a disused iron
water pipe and a small copper water pipe which is still 'live'. Note the
dark hole nearly 6 feet down in the dark clay material. More about that on
the next page.

This is how they join old cast iron and new plastic!
Goodness knows how they seal the joint because the pressure in that 3-4"
pipe is pretty high.

There's the new connection to No. 5 (just in case anyone
wants to dig it up again in the future).
